Anonymous Society presents What Nature Remembers, a group exhibition featuring works by Katie Bassett, Kristen Terrana-Hollis, Michele Riche, and Elyse Shapiro. Through sculpture, paint, photography, and material based practices, the exhibition considers the ways nature continues to shape our bodies, memories, and daily lives.
Rather than presenting the natural world as scenery or image, What Nature Remembers focuses on sensation, residue, and presence. The smell of cut grass drifting through summer air. The pressure before a storm. The spread of moss across concrete. The quiet grief of something living that no longer is. These small and often overlooked experiences become points of entry into a larger conversation about how deeply intertwined we are with the environments around us.
At a time when our relationship to nature feels increasingly distant, controlled, and unstable, the exhibition turns toward intimacy instead of spectacle. The works in the exhibition do not attempt to recreate the landscape. Instead, they hold traces of it through texture, repetition, memory, decay, and transformation.
Across the exhibition, natural and human systems overlap. Materials shift, surfaces erode, forms accumulate, and moments of stillness emerge. Together, the works ask viewers to consider not only what we remember about nature, but what nature remembers about us.
